The call is out for divers to play their part in the Great Shark Snapshot 2024.
Running between July 20-28, the Snapshot is organised by the Shark Trust – a charity dedicated to safeguarding the future of sharks and rays.
And, as we continue our own Shark Month celebrations, Emperor Divers is keen to give our support to an event the Trust describes as a community science project to help gather vital information about global shark distribution and build a clearer picture for shark scientists and conservationists.
Their call is for ‘buddy pairs, dive centres, clubs and boats to join us and record as many shark, ray and skate sightings around the world as possible’.
With around 1/3 of sharks and rays threatened by destructive fishing, climate change and habitat destruction the data collected will help scientists put effective conservation plans in place to help species.
So if you are diving from an Emperor boat (or indeed anywhere else) we encourage you to join in the project and help continue to develop this research and hopefully play a part in securing a better future for these wonderful animals.
To record your sightings of sharks, skates and rays simply go to the online log or you can visit on the Shark Trust website to find out more.
