The Emperor Diving Centre has excellent facilities — including dive computers and GoPros, which I wasn’t used to — and, of course, the support was outstanding. I hope to return and I definitely recommend it!
My daughter and I had an amazing two day – 2 tank dive with Emperors Dive Honiara. The scuba instructors, Paul and Caroline, are great hosts.
We explored WW2 shipwrecks and a B17 plane. The sea life is abundant, beautiful, and plentiful. Our dives were not rushed and we had lots of time underwater. The gear was brand new and we felt safe at all times. They even provided us with booties since we had to walk a little bit on rocks.
If you love wreck diving we highly recommend a visit to Honiara and hooking up with Emperors.

I booked Emperor Explorer many months in advance as part of a carefully planned round-the-world itinerary. After comparing multiple liveaboards and reviews across several platforms, this boat best matched our schedule and expectations.
The vessel itself is in excellent condition and immaculately maintained. The crew keeps the boat spotless, cleaning between dives and again at night without creating any disturbance. Cabins are quiet, comfortable, and very well kept, and the air-conditioning works extremely well, allowing for consistently good sleep throughout the trip.
Dive operations were a strong point. The dhoni used to access dive sites is spacious, well organized, and fully equipped, with plenty of room for divers and gear. There were multiple dive masters and assistants, which provided a reassuring level of individual attention. Dive site selection was excellent and represented some of the best the Maldives has to offer. Marine life was abundant, with healthy coral, reef mantas, and multiple shark species. Over the entire seven-day itinerary, only one dive showed noticeable reef decline; otherwise, the diving was exceptional.
Rental equipment was top-notch—modern, well maintained, and in excellent condition. Nitrox was available as expected on every dive and consistently reliable. Aside from personal items such as a mask or dive computer, there is little need to bring extensive gear.
The food was plentiful and generally well prepared, though temperature consistency could be improved. Some meals arrived properly warm, while others did not. This could be easily addressed with better warming solutions for serving dishes or plates. Perhaps a microwave oven?
A far more serious issue, however, was food allergy management. My daughter has a documented tree-nut allergy, which was communicated in writing at booking, again on boarding forms, and verbally to staff. Despite this, on the final night a pasta dish contained cashews, resulting in an anaphylactic reaction. While appropriate medical supplies were available onboard (and we also carry our own), this type of oversight is unacceptable and potentially life-threatening. This issue alone significantly impacts the overall rating.
In summary, Emperor Explorer excels in vessel condition, cleanliness, dive operations, equipment quality, and overall diving experience. However, allergy protocols must be addressed and corrected. With proper food-safety controls in place, this could otherwise be an outstanding liveaboard experience.
The 2 directors Phil and Nihed made the whole trip run smoothly.
Cabins were spacious, food was tasty ( a little too much!😊) and the dive sites were a wonder that we never got tired of.
We never felt crowded on the boat, the WiFi worked, and we were lucky with the weather.
I can only recommend highly a holiday on this boat.
Special mention to Austin our dive guide, Andy for the wonderful drinks he prepared every day and Nihed for his joie de vivre!

The house reef is absolutely stunning. Beautiful corals, rich marine life, and always something new to discover, no matter how often you dive it.
Manager Achmed is truly outstanding. Professional, warm, and genuinely dedicated to both safety and guest experience. He runs the operation with calm confidence and a great sense of hospitality.
The night dives are unbelievably beautiful. The reef comes alive after dark and delivers unforgettable moments on every dive.

This was my second time diving with Emperor Liveaboard, this time in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, after my first-ever liveaboard experience in the Maldives a couple of years ago. I’m happy to say: they did not disappoint — again.
From the moment I landed, everything was seamless. Clear airport reception with signage, a speedy transfer to the harbour, and well-paced onboarding once on board. Safety briefings, dive orientation, and boat familiarisation were thorough yet easy to follow — reassuring without being overwhelming.
A huge shoutout to Cruise Directors Phil and Nihed, who somehow managed to bond 24 individuals from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds into a genuinely warm and fun group. That kind of group chemistry doesn’t happen by accident.
The boat crew were phenomenal across the board.
• The kitchen team and chefs served consistently hot, delicious meals — from Western and Asian dishes to a special hotpot night, and even a New Year’s Eve 4-course steak dinner.
• Housekeeping worked like magic — rooms were spotless and always made up by the time we surfaced from the first morning dive.
• Snacks were constantly available… I’m convinced there are cookie elves quietly refilling the jars throughout the day.
I don’t drink, but judging from very happy fellow guests, Andi was an excellent bartender. Lee and Rio were incredibly attentive — refilling glasses before anyone had to ask, remembering our breakfast egg orders, and somehow learning everyone’s names and preferences. That’s no small feat on a liveaboard.
Behind the scenes, the captain, engineers, and officers kept the boat running smoothly and safely. Zodiac drivers were fast, skilled, and reassuring when shuttling us to dive sites and land excursions. Dive groups were kept small, tanks were always full, and equipment was well cared for.
Underwater, the dive team made safety the priority while still taking the time to point out the incredible marine life. And just to be clear — this is the ocean, not a zoo or an aquarium. You won’t see mantas on every single dive, because nature doesn’t work that way. But when things do appear, it’s all the more special.
Beyond diving, there were so many thoughtful extras:
visits to the engine room and wheelhouse, land excursions to Piaynemo viewpoints, beach time, and even stand-up paddle boards and kayaks set up for us to enjoy between and after dives. Add to that genuinely good conversations and crew members who took the time to know every single guest — you can tell they truly care about what they do.
In summary: I’m really glad I chose Emperor Harmoni again for my second liveaboard experience.

Stefan has the perfect mentality for a dive instructor: he is calm, professional, and knows exactly where to focus to improve your skills. I entered the course only planning to get the basics, but his teaching gave me the confidence to go further. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with him again.
