Lombok is an unspoilt gem of the Indonesian archipelago.
Quieter than its neighbour, Bali, it offers a perfect package of delights for those who want to get slightly off the more beaten tourist track.
Our Lombok, Sumbawa & Komodo itinerary will give the best experience of this special part of the world from the water, show you land-based treasures such as UNESCO Heritage Site, Komodo National Park and cruise between the beautiful Gili Islands on board our schooner Raja Laut.
But it is well worth spending more time – if you can spare it before or after your dive trip – to take in some of what Lombok itself has to offer.
Here are five things we think you should look out for while you are there:
1 Stunning Beaches
Lombok boasts some of Indonesia’s most beautiful beaches, including Kuta Beach, Senggigi Beach, and Tanjung Aan Beach. Renowned for their pristine white sands, crystal-clear waters, diverse marine life and stunning sunsets they perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing.
2 Mount Rinjani
The majestic Mount Rinjani is Indonesia’s second-highest volcano. Its beauty is mesmerising with its towering peak, lush green slopes, and serene crater lake. It offers adventurous treks with breathtaking views, hot springs and the most amazing sunrises.
3 Culture
Lombok’s Sasak culture is unique, with traditional villages, dance performances, and handicrafts. Visit Sade and Ende villages to experience authentic Sasak life. There are also beautiful and fascinating temples (pura) such as Pura Lingsar, Pura Meru and Pura Batu Bolong – the latter meaning ‘rock with a hole’!
4 Waterfalls
Lombok’s lush interior is a thing of beauty in itself. But when exploring it you will discover stunning waterfalls, such as Sendang Gile, Tiu Kelep, and Benang Kelambu – perfect for a refreshing dip and great photo opportunities.
5 Atmosphere
As we said, compared to its more famous neighbour, Bali, Lombok offers a more relaxed and less crowded atmosphere, ideal for those seeking tranquility and a slower pace. It has less than a third of the tourists Bali does in a year and yet is just a 40-minute flight away.
