Mantas, Maldives

Maldives stars are in fine form for the camera

We describe it as The Majestic Maldives but it has really been living up to its billing in recent months.

The marine life has been in wonderful form with magnificent mantas taking on the starring role.

Lucky guests have seen an incredible an increase in the number of mantas at Lankan Finolhu while there have sometimes been up to 15 at a time on the cleaning station.

This was highlighted beautifully by Emperor Divers regular Peter Wallech in the amazing bit of film he captured. He and fellow divers were blessed to witness a cleaning station full of mantas while a huge school of mobulas were cruising by.

Peter is approaching his 900th dive in the Maldives – and 500th with Emperor – and described that one at Lankan as his best-ever at the site.

The season has been an excellent one with conditions near perfect at times. It has brought terrific reward for divers with whale shark also keen to put on a show.

This can be seen in another excellent bit of video, this time at Mihiri Island (Credit @symdive), which provided a special moment for guests diving from Emperor Explorer.
