They are called the Forgotten Islands for a reason – because they are largely unnoticed and untouched by the outside world.
Because of their remote location, tourism has not had a huge impact on this lesser-known group in the Moluccas – an archipelago spread over a 1000km-long chain on the eastern side of the Banda Sea.
Despite being off the traditional track for visitors to Indonesia, the Forgotten Islands remain a very special place to visit.
On land, the people living on these islands lead simple, traditional lifestyles, relying heavily on fishing and subsistence farming. They have maintained their ancient customs, languages, and rituals, preserving a way of life largely untouched by modern influences.
In the water, it is a diver’s paradise with all the diversity of marine life anyone would expect from this region.
And that is precisely why we have added a new itinerary to our fantastic Indonesia range that not only takes in the world-famous and bucket-list destination of Raja Ampat but also this very special and overlooked area.
The Raja Ampat & Forgotten Islands trip really is one of a diver’s dreams.
It is a 12-night journey spent onboard our beautiful boat Emperor Harmoni. She is a boat almost as stunning as the nature you will witness having been bespoke made for us in the traditional phinisi style by legendary builder Pak Haji.
Harmoni will take you to some places that will be must-visit spots such Misool, Pisang Islands, Momon and Pulau Koon (where there is a dive site called Too Many Fish!).
Raja Ampat is obviously renowned the world over but the Forgotten Islands adds a special something else to this paradise.
It is somewhere that can only be explored for a few weeks every year because of the conditions – related to a seasonal wind pattern – and then only really by liveaboard.
This is not simply an off-the-beaten track place it is one very few divers will have had the chance to sample.
The dream is out there – now let us help you make it come true.
