Emperor Divers Laamu rescues Hawksbill turtle

| No TrackBacks

Whilst taking guests out for a dolphin excursion, Sandeep, our Divemaster Trainee at Emperor Divers Laamu, rescued a hawksbill turtle which had become entangled in a hessian grain sack.

Fortunately Adam, Centre Manager, was coming back from a dive on the dhoni and took the turtle from Sandeep to continue the rescue. With careful attention they freed it and contacted the Olive Ridley Turtle Project for help and advice.

They advised it was OK to release, the turtle but to check to make sure it could descend. "It tried but kept bobbing back up so we retrieved it from the water and placed it in our rinse tank (filled with salt water) where it had a sleep," explained Adam. It was then flown to Marine Savers where it will get all the help it needs to get back to the ocean.

You can see the update of the turtle, they named Acorn, below in the video by Marine Savers. Good luck Acorn!
