At last! A holiday search engine that makes it easy

| No TrackBacks

First Selection, powered by BeachCollection

First Selection/BeachCollection
Our reservations staff are often asked about flights, accommodation and holidays from the UK. Well, the team has found a really useful holiday search engine that offers a whole range of airlines and hotels.
And, at last, it gives you the Destination airport BEFORE your Departure airport so you can instantly see which airports fly to where you want to go (how much time is lost filling in which airport you want to fly from only to be told after a long flight search that the airline doesn't fly from there!)
Basically the site does all the searching for you and will even recommend other dates if the ones you want aren't available.
Give it a try here and you'll see how easy it is. It's not just flights either, you can search on accommodation, holiday guides and a whole lot more.

Take flight - to the Red Sea

Leeds-based airline is to create 25 new jobs by basing another 225-seat Boeing 757 at Manchester Airport to increase capacity on new routes to Sharm El Sheikh. The airline says the new route had seen strong bookings since going on sale.

Great offers from

There are great offers from travelling out of both Gatwick and Manchester. There are seats available for Christmas and New Year so make your way to the Red Sea. Plus all their flights have allocated seating and 20kg baggage allowance in the price and a free inflight meal.

Lizard fish attacks anemone fish in Hurghada

| No TrackBacks
Diving guest, Rush Haslem, and Instructor, Chris Gooda caught this photo on a recent dive. As Ruth explains, "The red sea anemone fish was still alive but the lizard fish was no way going to let us get close enough to rescue its dinner. The surviving red sea anemone fish was distraught and swimming in crazy circles. I didn't know that lizard fish preyed on anemone fish, certainly not ones that are nearly bigger than they are!"

Emperor Divers Sharm Moves Home

| No TrackBacks
Emperor Divers/Oxygène, Sharm El Sheikh, is moving home!

After nine years at the Rosetta Hotel, the centre is relocating to new purpose-built premises at the Bay View Hotel right in the heart of Naama Bay.

The centre's location and superb facilities means that Emperor/Oxygène can grow even stronger as the dive centre that puts quality and customer satisfaction first. By partnering more closely with this established hotel, Emperor Divers plans to develop tailored accommodation and dive packages that will give its guests greater flexibility when planning their holiday.

"The team is geared up and ready to go for mid-January", explains Mike Braun, General Manager. "The time is now right to move into a more modern home where we'll be able give our guests much improved facilities. We're nearer the Jetty so turnaround timings will be so much shorter. Of course, the fabulous customer service long-associated with our Sharm team continues to shine! Everyone is excited by the range of new opportunities that lie ahead for Emperor Divers/Oxygène."

Onsite facilities include:
  • Swimming pool designed by divers for divers. Split across 4 levels, the heated pool provides the ideal environment to learn to dive with a depth range from 1.1m to 4m
  • Large air-conditioned classrooms with TV/DVD facilities, whiteboards, and plenty of comfortable desks and chairs
  • Shaded outdoor seating for debriefings and the all important post dive beer
  • Separate ladies and gents toilet facilities
  • Large rinse tank, generous kit storage and on-site equipment workshop
  • Open plan reception area including a small but well stocked shop
  • All hotel facilities available for use by Emperor guests including the large pool, roof bar, "The First Floor" bar and sun loungers
  • Close proximity to Naama Bay Jetty allowing for more efficient arrival/departure turnaround times
  • Many hotels within walking distance plus good access for transportation to the out-of-town hotels
  • All the facilities of Naama Bay on the doorstep - including restaurants, bars, banks, shops and supermarkets

Duncan McAllister, Dive Centre Manager, added, "We want to assure all our regular guests that have supported us over the years at the Rosetta that it will be business as usual at the Bay View. Although the location may be changing the team of familiar faces that makes Emperor Divers such a success will still be the same. Our professionalism, organization and boats will perform to our normal high standards. We look forward to seeing you soon at our new home."

More information to follow once the move is complete, around mid-January.

Leopard shark visits Nuweiba

| No TrackBacks
On a fine November morning guests Jem Freeman and Katherine Tsang, together with Emperor Nuweiba's diving assistant Basem and dive centre manager Jim Pickup, visited the popular local dive site, Outside Hilton.

The reef starts at just a few metres depth and slopes gently down to around 30 metres. On the many small pinnacles and old large table corals hang beautiful soft corals of purple and orange together with some incredibly bright red coloured sponges making this a firm favourite with underwater photographers. Coupled with the chances of spotting Garden Eels, perhaps a Frogfish and numerous Scorpion Fish you never know what surprises this reef has to offer.

Today's surprise was resting on the sand at 28 metres, seemingly unconcerned with the presence of four very happy divers! It was a Leopard Shark (Stegostoma varium) of around 2 metres in length. As a juvenile, this shark is black and white striped hence its other common name, the Zebra Shark. Today's individual was just at the end of its change from juvenile to adult and was still showing the remains of its stripes. Just another interesting revelation from Nuweiba's unusual underwater ecosystem!

Dugongs in strange places

| No TrackBacks

The dugongs in the area are still making news most weeks with many sightings at local sites and, of course, Abu Dabab. The team at Marsa Alam is getting sightings from sites where they wouldn't normally expect to see them (eg: no sea grass) and believe they may have found a new this space! One of these out of place sightings was of this beautiful male fast asleep at 26m! This picture - taken by guest Alain Cabioch - shows it lying, eyes tightly closed, fast asleep. After several minutes he opened one eye had a look at his observing friends and headed up for a breath before returning to the same spot to carry on with his afternoon snooze. What a way to spend your days!

Marsa hits a century!

Gary Ball, Dive Centre Manger, reports...

"Since Emperor Marsa Alam became a fully operational Tekstreme facility the 100m dive has always been in the planning. Last month a staff team consisting of Chris Berry, Aaron (Pina Colada) Bruce, Nick Hough and Gary Ball (me) finally made the dive! With the help and hard work of Captain Ashraf and his crew of Isa the dive was made one very calm morning just after sunrise. A big thank you goes out to all the ground team for humping the tanks for the four training days before and to everyone who helped with a historical dive at the centre. Great team, great dive!"
