More about Port Ghalib/Marsa Alam
Although we refer to Emperor Marsa Alam, our dive centres are in and around Port Ghalib, 65km north of Marsa Alam and 70km south of El Quseir. The main reason we say 'Emperor Marsa Alam', and most of the hotels are advertised as in Marsa Alam, is because Marsa Alam Airport is actually at Port Ghalib and serves the whole area.
Port Ghalib is where the majority of the hotels, bars, restaurants, bazaars and cafes are situated. You can get there from Marina Lodge Hotel by free water taxi, or a five-minute taxi ride from the Resta Reef & Grand Centres (organised by the hotel).
You can choose a range of activities including water sports, diving, looking for dolphins, snorkelling, as well as the traditional camel rides and desert safaris. For snorkellers the in-shore coral reefs offer fantastic marine life experiences, including giant Green Turtles.
