Rare Humpback Whale visits Sharm

A very rare sighting of an 8-10m Humpback Whale happened in Sharm, last week at Marsa Bareika. To the best of the Sharm team's knowledge there has only ever been three sightings in the Red Sea. On board was a Norwegian group of divers from Duykkesport and fortunately, two of them managed to take these photos at the surface.

Rare impersonator found in Nuweiba

The Emperor Divers' team in Nuweiba, Steffi and Andy Diez, sent news of a rare impersonator found on the house reef recently.

Guests, Evette and John Swindale, came across the little chap and took this photo of the Mimic Octopus. He must have had a long journey from his home in Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is where they were first found in 1988. The mimic can impersonate a range of marine life including sea snakes, lionfish and flatfish in order to avoid predators.

All octopus species are highly intelligent and change their colour and skin texture to fool predators, but until the Mimic octopus was discovered scientists didn't know about the amazing ability to impersonate other animals. Move over Rory Bremner!

John Bantin applauds Emperor Majesty

John Bantin, experienced diver and journalist, wrote in a recent issue of DIVER magazine...

"Emperor Majesty is the acme of the boatbuilder's achievements using wood, with an interior opulently finished in fine veneers. The cabins of the 36m Emperor Majesty are slightly more luxurious (than Hurricane) and take 20 passengers. The saloons are enormous. It is cheaper to dive in Egypt than almost anywhere in the world and we should all appreciate this incredible value for money while it lasts."

Underwater Photography workshops

Maria Munn of Ocean Visions and Emperor Divers are continuing their successful Underwater Photography Trips, especially designed for divers with compact digital cameras, this November on an Emperor Gold Fleet Liveaboard.

These photo workshops are a fun, friendly and relaxed way to learn about, and improve, your underwater photographic skills with the genuine personal touch. Accessories will be onboard to try out at a small charge, as well as an onboard digital lab for downloading photographs and instant feedback, combined with evening slideshows of guest’s pictures – all set to music.

Divers will have the chance to photograph some of the Red Sea’s famous sites, learn how to develop photography skills and shoot beautiful underwater images.

Trips will be sailing from Marsa Alam taking in the beautiful areas of Fury Shoals and Elphinstone in the Southern Red Sea.

The cost of the Photo Workshop is just 175 Euros per person (approx £119 depending on exchange rates). And you can also take the PADI Digital Underwater Photography Specialty course whilst on the trip at an extra cost.

Click here for dates, costs and full information on what the trips include. All trips will be on an Emperor Gold Fleet liveaboard.
