Have yourself a Merry Christmas - from here to Infinity!
OK, summer is still with us, but it's time to think ahead and plan where you're going to spend your Christmas festivities.
Keep the sun in sight and head for a liveaboard holiday from Hurghada. Emperor Fleet's Gold Class boat, Emperor Infinity, sails over the Christmas period from 22 - 29 December on the popular 'Classic Cruise'.
Custom-designed and built to a superior standard, Emperor Infinity is a 38 metre boat accommodating a maximum of 20 guests in 9 twin-berth cabins and a double master suite, all with ensuite and air conditioning. For added comfort - and lighter luggage! - each guest receives two towels and a bathrobe! Add to that the two sundecks, dive deck with platform, air-conditioned salon, dining room and air-con bar on the sundeck level and you have a spacious vessel complete with all the diving and safety equipment, including two Zodiacs.
Although a large boat, Infinity will still take just 20 guests maximum. She is also equipped for tech diving + NITROX and, as with all Emperor fleet boats, is guaranteed to carry a minimum of two dive guides.
You'll find a whole host of Christmas and New Year sailings right here.

NEW! Family diving facilities in Sharm
Is enough being done for divers with families? It seems that the general consensus thinks not, which is why Emperor Divers is once again proving that they listen to the majority and have responded to guests' needs.
In October 2006, Emperor will launch a new partnership with Family Diving, an independent tour operator specialising in diving holidays for families.

Family Diving can arrange a total holiday package to cater for all the families' needs including flights, accommodation, dive packages and crèche facilities.
Total flexibility is on offer, from a range of hotels offering any length of stay (subject to flight availability) to choice of flights and airports. The Family Diving team truly understand the needs of the family and has first hand experience in delivering a superior service.
Based at Emperor Divers Centre in Sharm, the crèche facility will be run by Family Diving’s qualified, NVQ Level 3, British Nursery Manager. Children from 6 months+ can be cared for during either half day or full day sessions to run alongside Emperors’ half day and full day boat diving schedules. Strict child-to-carer ratios adhere to UK guidelines.

A new, half day boat schedule is also being introduced in Sharm El Sheikh with two dives both morning and afternoon. Now parents can have the best of both worlds and spend time with the children and still get two full boat dives done in a day! Non-divers are welcome to join the half day boat trips and visit a range of sites where they can enjoy guided snorkeling trips, complete with marine life briefings and fish identity counts, which will be used to help the scientific community.
Emperor Divers is a great choice for children's diving!

Soma Bay receives 'Red Sea Defender' Award
Emperor Soma Bay's Manager, Denise Fletcher, recently received the 'Red Sea Defender' award from the Governor of the Red Sea in recognition of the dive centre's work in helping HEPCA (Hurghada Environmental Protection & Conservation Association).

Soma Bay has been extremely proactive in helping HEPCA with their environmental programmes, particularly the mooring line project. At the same ceremony, the Governor was presented with an award from the Shark Project, given to Egypt for 'Shark Guardian of the Year 2006', for banning the fishing of sharks throughout the Egyptian Red Sea.

Red Sea Lionfish - what a response!
Last month we told you about a new form of lionfish found in the Red Sea, which has evolved feather-like tentacles where one or both have a sharply defined black eye spot with a white ring around it.
We asked for anyone who had seen one to let us know. And you did! Thanks to everyone who got in touch and sent their photos, and for agreeing to us using a montage of these. Here's the roll call of those who responded:
Silke Baron, Helen Chambers, Graham Wilson (and he apologises for the poor photo quality), Colm Heron, Allison Brown, Chris Logan and Jon Holmes (England).

There isn't room right here to show all your photos, but click here to visit our photo gallery and you'll see them all in their glory. We chose the one above simply because Silke was the first to respond! No favouritism, we assure you!
