Despite the advice from my Number One, Principle Kirton decided that after two low key ventures into the Outback of the Tiran System he would try the corner of Woodhouse in search of the fabled Hammers. It turned out to be a wasted opportunity. We have come to know it is just a matter of time if you stay with the set procedures before you have a good encounter, and sure enough two boats that did follow protocol met with 20-25 Hammers in perfect conditions. It is true however that, to compensate the previous night, they had Spanish Dancers just off the back of the ship in their tracker beam and therefore close examination was possible over several hours.
Our two ships have been re-supplied with new replicators for their journeys into the far reaches of the Sha'ab Ali system to examine the Thistlegorm structure and the life forms that inhabit this area. They will be gone for some time and at the extreme range of communications with the Federation. We might therefore have to await their return to review their data logs to determine the success of the voyage.
In the meantime we have been told that over a hundred delegates will be joining the weekly BBQ conference to exchange ideas and concepts. My chief engineer, Roger, and local translator, Walid, have been sent to escort a group from what we understand to be a planet called Poland. We believe that communication between the Welsh, Arabic and Polish dialects will prove an interesting challenge for all of them. We have, therefore, adopted a form of sign language that should allow us to communicate more easily with this life form.
