Could it be 3 days running that Emperor got a whale shark? It could indeed. Pinkies Wall was the chosen site just down from where the mantas were seen the day before. In the group jumped to find themselves right above a whale shark at 5m, where it stayed for 15 minutes posing for photographs just a few metres away. The 6 mantas that kept coming and going throughout the dive, were now just getting in the way. Is May now the best time to come to Sharm - let's see what June holds!
So with all these sightings of the big stuff........has it continued........yes it has. The wind was too strong to get round the back of Jackson today, but for the second day running lots of stuff was seen. On Jackson it was 3 turtles over the Aquarium and two large free swimming morays, but it was the expectation of returning to the local sights that was on everyone's minds, and sure enough we were not to be disappointed. The guests on Marcus had a Whale Shark and Manta at Far Garden, whilst Mahy Tours, Kastan Sea and Shorouk all headed for Tower.........and sure enough the 3 large Mantas didn't disappoint as one by one over the period of the dives they paraded themselves for inspection by all the divers. Life can be tough for some!!!!
It's all happening in Sharm this year. Very early, each day we have had sightings of whale sharks and mantas and it seems everything is bigger and more numerous this year. Take the diving day for two of our instructors and their guests on 21 May. Dive One on Thomas Reef, a 6 metre whale shark so close that everyone with a video camera got great footage, the grey reef shark they saw on their descent just didn't cut the mustard. Dive Two on the back of Jackson Reef, 2 Hammerheads for 12 minutes and a group of 20 more just keeping in the distance. Dive 3, just beyond Tower, 3 mantas to finish off the day. To think that the instructors are getting paid for this, it can't get much better.........can it?
