Love diving or your money back

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

More and more people are learning the joys of the sport of diving, so it's a win-win situation with Emperor Divers' water-tight money-back guarantee.

0810 money back divers.jpgWe are so confident that you will love diving, and the way your instructors look after you, that we are offering to give you your money back if you find that diving just isn't for you.

Choose any of our dive centres in El Gouna, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Nuweiba or Sharm El Sheikh.

The guarantee applies to the following PADI* courses: Scuba Diver, Open Water, eLearning, Fastrack and Discover Scuba Diving.

*Terms and conditions apply. Check out Emperor Divers' website.

Each Sunday in Nuweiba, you can now learn about the area's coral reefs through a 'family fun day' and award yourself with the PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty.

Coral Sunday - sm.jpgThis weekly event aims to raise awareness in the form of trash dives helping Nuweiba maintain its unspoiled beauty and pristine coral gardens. Organized beach clean ups and underwater clean ups make a significant impact in helping us to preserve the amazing underwater ecosystems.

After the clean up, Emperor's Nuweiba team invites you to take part in the Coral Watch monitoring dive where you learn how to record and monitor corals and return data, all of which helps in preventing the destruction of our world's most fragile environment.

On completion of the day's activities, guests can choose to see a free Coral Reef Conservation presentation by the staff allowing them to earn the PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty.  Here you will learn:

• How coral reefs function
• Why they are so important
• Why many reefs are in serious trouble
• What you can do to prevent further decline

A number of guests have already completed the Specialty, as pictured above.

The Specialty itself is FREE (within your day's dive pack) and costs just 35 Euro for the Certification fee (+10% tax).

The team in Nuweiba is delighted to be able to offer guests a memorable day out on their new charter boat - King Sea Star. You can visit Ras Mamlach in the National Park with its pristine coral formations along with an amazing abundance of fish life such as Napoleon wrasse, turtles, milk fish, blue spotted rates and schooling barracuda.

0610 nuweiba new boat trip.JPGThe boat leaves the dive centre at 8am and returns at 5pm, so a full and fulfilling day for all. Divers can do their PADI Boat Diver specialty on the day. Non-diving guests are also welcome aboard.

The trip costs just 45 Euro, including lunch and soft drinks. All trips are subject to weather conditions and minimum numbers.

Nuweiba's Ghost Pipefish is no apparition!

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

Nuweiba Dive Centre Manager, Ute Friedrich, reports...

Never before have I seen one here, but just the other day in Ras El Shetan, I found the robust ghost pipefish. And what made it even better is that I was diving with Barnsley BSAC Divers. It took a little while to get everyone to recognise that this little thing was indeed alive and well and not some masquerading piece of ghostly seaweed!

David Patchett, Diveleader of the group, happily confirmed that none of the group members had ever seen anything like it before.

And the icing on the cake was that the same group saw two seahorses the day before in Magana!

0410 Dive Wimbledon nuweiba.jpgTwelve divers from Dive Wimbledon were recently given the usual warm welcome from Emperor Divers Nuweiba.  Some came for guided dives with the Emperor staff whilst others were here for PADI courses with Dive Wimbledon's first-rate instructors, Sophie Platteuw and Karen Curtis-Vincent.  By the end of the week there lots of new Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue and Nitrox divers all sporting happy faces!

And it was a bit of a coup for Julie Tsui from Dive Wimbledon who not only completed her PADI Open Water course but also became Emperor Nuweiba's 7,000th new guest!

0410 Jayakar's Seahorse at Magana.jpgAnother highlight of the week for a few lucky divers was the first appearance of the season for Jayakar's Seahorse in the seagrass at our Magana dive site (pic right).

All the team of Emperor Divers in Nuweiba has been proud to show this excellent group from Dive Wimbledon the calm, stress free and peaceful Nuweiba experience!

The very elusive Mimic Octopus has made another magical appearance for Emperor Divers in Nuweiba. At the start of a dive on the House Reef last month, guest, Jenny Johnson, managed to get a couple of quick shots of this little Mimic Octopus before it disappeared with a spurt of ink back to the sanctuary of its hole in the sand (first two pics). A kind of 'now you see me now you don't occasion!'

The Mimics have been here in Nuweiba for many years as this photo from regular visitor to Emperor Divers, Steve Mullooly, taken in 2005 shows (far right).

As many visitors to Emperor Divers, Nuweiba, know, this is a great location for regular sightings of the elusive Frogfish.  They vary from tiny little finger nail size specimens to the much larger - and thus named - Giant Frogfish.

Frogfish change colour over time to match their surroundings and, not surprisingly, grow larger as they grow older.  Underwater photographer and frequent visitor to Emperor Nuweiba, Jan Davies, has sent us four photos from 2005 to 2009 of what he believes to be the same Frogfish showing how it has adapted its colouration over the years with its surroundings.

Are there any Frogfish experts out there who can confirm that this could be the same fish growing older over the years?

0110 Ras Mamlach crack 002emp.jpgOne and a half hours south of Nuweiba, along the coastal track by jeep, lies the remote and beautiful dive site of Ras Mamlach in the Abu Galum National Park. The diving here offers pretty coral gardens and a spectacular wall festooned with black corals dropping into the abyss.

During the surface interval, a short walk along the shore will bring you to another interesting feature of this remote location.

Several years ago an earthquake caused two long and narrow cracks to be formed on the shore running inland. About 2 metres wide and dropping down to around 6 to 8 metres, the water in these cracks is extremely clear and0110 Ras Mamlach crack 006emp.jpg not as salty as the sea probably because it is a mix of seawater and fresh underground water from the nearby mountains of the Sinai.

We have yet to discover if there are any weird creatures living in this newly formed habitat such as the blind shrimps found in similar cracks near to Ras Mohamed. Only time and the intrepidness of the dive guide will tell!
