I am really looking forward to my first liveaboard holiday. I have always wanted to experience one but as my wife is a non-diver we always chose a resort based package.

I have visited the Red Sea on quite a few occasions; the first time was 26 years ago. After 10 years I did get bored with diving but that all changed when I became an instructor. I now get a real sense of achievement when one of my students qualifies or when taking them on their first open water dive. The infectious enthusiasm that dive students generate has put the spark back into diving for me.

I prefer a 90 minute dive over a pristine reef to a wreck dive so I will probably book the trip out of Marsa Ghalib taking in the reefs of Elphinstone, the Brothers and Daedalus on the Simply the Best route on board Emperor Elite during July to coincide with the end of another year at university where I am studying to become a paramedic.

My wife was not overwhelmed to find out that the prize was for one, but I did point out that as she had bought me a subscription to Diver for my birthday that the liveaboard holiday was actually part of my birthday present. I will probably have to take her to Dive Fest at Pentewan Sands, Cornwall to make up for not taking her on a luxury holiday on-board Emperor Elite.

My diving experiences include ice diving in the Arctic Circle to the Pacific, the South China Sea, Philippines, Indonesia, Maldives, Caribbean, Red Sea and the UK. I'm a PADI and BSAC instructor.

This year's NEC Dive Show proved a great success on the Emperor Divers' stand.  As always, it's a great chance to catch up with guests, to chat about what's happening in Emperor's Red Sea and to share our diving experience with you.

And it was so refreshing to see that the blighted credit crunch doesn't seem to have stopped people from booking their diving. This year saw nearly twice as many people booking online with Emperor at the show than last year! Heartening to know that not all is doom and gloom out there.

 

With a new stand promoting Emperor's dive resorts and liveaboards plus a new online booking station, the show proved popular as visitors liked the idea of booking their diving there and then.

"What an amazing surprise winning this competition was! Especially as a Red Sea liveaboard was exactly the holiday my partner and I were next planning and were actually at the Dive Show researching the various options! Although I've been lucky enough to dive in several far flung places, my favourite to date being Fiji's mesmerising Great White Wall, I love the Red Sea and am immensely grateful to have such a fantastic diving destination a mere 5 hour flight away. I've been to Eilat, Taba, Sharm and Dahab and also spent a happy Christmas at Marsa Alam's lovely Coral Bay Diving Hotel when it had just opened but I've never been further offshore than Elphinstone so am really looking forward to this trip.
